Medical Herbalist
Katolen is a Medical Herbalist and a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and the American Herbalists Guild (USA), currently in private practice and offers phone/skype herbal medicine consultations throughout North America as well as offers in-person Osteopathy appointments in Vancouver and Port Moody, BC.
She has been employed in the Holistic Health field since 1993, with clinical experience since 1995. Her personal interest in health lies with the emotional connection to wellness and dis-ease. She specializes in herbal medicine for women’s health issues, skin dis-ease, digestive and nervous system disorders and believes in providing usable tools for healing through inspiration and education.
Katolens herbal medicine training was completed at the School of Phytotherapy in the UK, Dominion Herbal College and Wild Rose College in Canada. Her clinical experience and mentorship was completed at the School of Phytotherapy, Middlesex University, Archway Hospital (UK), and with the late Christopher Hedley (UK), Chanchal Cabrera and Rowan Hamilton.
Doctor of Osteopathy
Her degree, Doctor of Osteopathy (EU) entailed over 3474 educational hours along with 1000 additional hours of Osteopathy Clinical Internship which complies with the World Health Organizations requirements for Osteopathic training. Katolen is a professional member in good standing with the ACMA and and the British Columbia Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners. Katolens thesis was written on, “The Body as One Unit: The Role of Connective Tissue in Whole Body Health”.

Instructor of Herbal Medicine
Katolen has been involved in curriculum development for numerous educational programs. She is adjunct faculty at Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine where she teaches botanical medicine and hands-on medicine making classes; Katolen has taught at Pacific Rim College, was an instructor of anatomy and physiology and a clinic supervisor at Dominion Herbal College from 2012-2023. Currently she is a clinic supervisor for Heartwood Education(UK), Betonica School of Herbal Medicine (UK) and Wild Rose College. Katolen offers hands on medicine making classes, herb walks and public talks at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens and UBC Sustainable Farm.

Mentor for Clinical Practice of Herbal Medicine
Katolen has been running a student clinic herbal mentorship program for advanced students to complete their required supervised clinic training hours. Apprenticeship training assists in preparing advanced students to become herbalists at the professional level through observation and hands-on practice in a clinic setting.
She offers mentorship for herbalists applying for professional membership with the American Herbalists Guild (US), the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (UK), the British Columbia Herbalists Association and the Ontario Herbalists Association.

Community Contributions
Katolen is the current president of the Canadian Council of Herbalist Associations (CCHA) 2017 – 2023 and past president of the Canadian Herbalist’s Association of BC (CHA of BC) from 2013-2019. She is the author of the book – The Good Living Guide to Natural and Herbal Remedies (2016).
From 1998 until 2015, she appeared monthly on Global Television Morning News, offering herbal information to the public. Katolen has been a guest on the Discovery Channel’s Healthy Home Show, has been published in numerous magazines and health journals including:
the British Journal of Phytotherapy, Shared Vision Magazine, Elated News, Choices Markets Newsletters and Living + Magazine, she is a guest speaker at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, has presented at international conferences including Phytotherapy Canada, the BC Pharmacy Association, the Canadian Herbalists Association of BC, Health Action Network, Kootenay Herb Conference, Vancouver Island Herb Gathering, Powell River Women’s Health Network, Washington State’s Northwest Herbal Fair, Northern California Women’s Herbal Symposium, North West Herb Symposium, Nanaimo Horticultural Society, the BC Post Secondary Support Staff Conference and appeared in interviews on the Dr. Don Show, the Simi Sara Show, Access Television, Health Stuff You Need to Know Podcast, CKVN News, CBC National News, The Weather Network, CBC Talk Radio, CKNWs World Today and CFML Radio. Katolen is a consultant with The Faith Popcorn BrainReserve Talent Bank in New York.

Business consultant
Katolen is a business consultant in the industry of botanical medicine and natural health. Regardless of whether you require assistance with product formulation, design and research or require guidance with internal business organization such as product markups and costing; Katolen is available to help you plan every aspect of your herbal business.
With prior experience running a wellness center with 15 practitioners and prior, for 6 years Katolen managed the production of a busy herbal company, responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the good manufacturing procedures of herbal formulations. Katolen is a private contractor with industry for business guidance, product formulations (from creating recipes from herbal chocolates, topical applications to internal botanical remedies) as well as product license applications for Canadas Natural Health Product regulations.
Katolen offers consultant work for the film industry for the accurate depiction and realistic use of medicinal plants for film and television productions.
